Women’s Ski Camps with Jessica Baker

Live from La Grave, France SKI DIVAS report parte un...

Bonjour SKI DIVAS fans, adventurers, and mountain lov ers ar ound the globe!  Jessica Baker here with the first official report from La Grave SKI DIVAS camp 2009.  We are now on day 4 of the La Grave camp, and it has been an amazing time as usual.  We have Sus an, Chris, Rhonda, Connie, Ryan (our photographer), and Xavier, my dear friend and amazing French guide. Ryan has been capturing amazing photos daily.  His professionalism is unparalleled, and I am so happy to have him along!  And of course the SKI DIVAS themselves have been impressing me daily with their strength, adventurous spirit, and sense of humor.

We have skiied some great runs thus far in La Grave:  St. Christoph Classique, Trifide Couloirs, Chancel, Les Freaux Couloir, La Voute, Valon de La Meije Classique, and more….  The snow has been anything from powder to chalky soft.  We have had primarily sunny days, and cold temperatures making for a good time.  A north wind came along yesterday and firmed things up, but also made a playground of “nature’s grooming” everywhere we went.  The conditions call for a high level of technical proficiency, but today the SKI DIVAS proved their prowess, evoking Xavier to exclaim, “Ahh yes, thise weemen, they strong mountain weemen, very quiet on skis, good for hard condition, not many can do this.”  What a great group I have here

The local community has been gracious, welcoming, and warm to us all, and it is wonderful to see my friends in this community once again.  Of course we remember Doug Coombs daily, but it is the magnificence of this place that drew him here every time.  We follow in the same footsteps of awe, respect, and sense of adventure.

The food has been incredible too…FRESH!  Everything so fresh!… fresh cheeses, crisp baguettes, pain au chocolate, perfect fruit tarts, salad verte, jambon cru, hearty soups, tartiflette, strange sausages that taste so good, vin au chaud, Belgian beers, French wine…  Its a culinary dream!

So I will leave you with that for now…look for an update in the next day or so… as the adventure is just getting warmed up!

Au revoir!  A bientot!
